Learning is cool (and fun!) with SM Stationery

It’s almost June and that means it’s time for some back-to-school shopping!

Back-to-school season meant cool new school supplies and it was something that excited me a lot growing up. I have fond memories of holding my required school supplies list from school and searching for the items with my mom, which I considered our back-to-school bonding ritual every school year.

When I was a kid there weren’t that many options when it came to school supplies and stationery. What I did to make my notebooks stand out was to personalize them using photos and ads that I fancied from old magazines. ๐Ÿ™‚

I went to the SM stationery department in SM Mall of Asia and I felt that same giddy back-to-school vibe I always got before. I am happy to report that my wish as a kid has been granted– they have so many options for students/stationery lovers like me!

Whether you want to fit in or stand out, I’m pretty sure SM Stationery has endless possibilities for your type of “cool”. Here are just some ideas:

ARTSY/DIY COOL:

I located the washi tapes/stickers area first and was so thrilled that they have decorush deco tapes! If you haven’t tried these, they look like correction tapes but they have cute designs and can be used for borders in your notebooks or to decorate plain notebook covers or even to create labels in sticker paper to label your school stuff! I first tried this when I bought one impulsively from Japan. I couldn’t understand the directions but when I tried it I was hooked. ๐Ÿ™‚ What’s even better is that if you have the case already you can just buy refills and the refills are interchangeable. Trying my best to resist hoarding these so you can also try them out haha:

image

To use or not to use? Erasers that can also serve as miniature toys:

image

I’m glad there are so many correction tape design options but it’s giving me this urge to start a correction tape collection lol. Just look at how adorable they all are!

image

image

MINIMALIST/PREPPY COOL:

image

image

image

When I was still studying, we didn’t even have this option of having clearbooks or folders with cover designs! Looks amazing and classy:

image

TIP: They have black notebooks with black paper inside and they are also selling a lot of metallic gel pens and white pens which you can use for a funner way of note-taking! I think the fluorescent ones would make you excited for jotting down your learnings from your different subjects. Maybe even try different-colored pens for writing down formulas or important dates, for example. ๐Ÿ™‚

image

Headphones for editing videos or earphones for the long commute or ride in the school bus. I envy those who can study with music on, I couldn’t concentrate and would find myself singing along or humming along! My way of studying was to crunch ice cubes to keep me awake while making reviewers which I’d read over and over during the commute to school the next day. ๐Ÿ™‚

image

image

image

These acrylic containers look so good and can store your highlighters and pens for your desk:

image

image

TECHIE COOL:

They have powerbanks, usbs, sd cards and other accessories for your laptops and computers. That unicorn powerbank is on my wishlist:

image

image

image

image

COOL AND CHIC:

You can never have too many pouches/pencilcases:

image

These are post-it notes! Loving the many different nature-inspired designs:image

image

image

BEST DEAL AWARD:

image

You guys, I couldn’t believe it when I saw it too but these awesome bags are only php399 each and it already comes with school supplies! Best deal everrrr!
If that hasn’t blown your mind already, the best part is that they’re packaged depending on grade level and can also be for highschoolers! I had such a hard time deciding which to get for myself (I fell in love with the bags and you can never have enough stationery lol) because the designs and colors are all so great haha. Here are some quick snaps of what’s inside this all-in-one school pack:

image

image

image

BONUS: You can also get a free watch with a minimum single receipt purchase worth Php1,500 from SM Stationery from May 1 to June 30. ๐Ÿ™‚
TIP: You can personalize these with these cute patches (which I bought and are now in my journal covers):
image

You can use these patches to customize your notebooks and pouches as well! Saw a lot of plain pouches which can be jazzed up with these babies. ๐Ÿ™‚

image

QUIRKY COOL:

I don’t know about you, but my mood is instantly brightened when my stuff has silly animals or creatures haha (especially when they’re cats and there are tons of cat-themed stuff in SM Stationery):

image

image

image

There are matchy-matchy sets so if you fall in love with a print, you’re in luck! You can match your pouches and bags and pencilcases using the same print! I loved this quirky cat print and was delighted to see it in a drawstring backpack and in an insulated lunchbox:

image

image

There were so many cute pouches and pencil cases and coin purses!

image

image

image

image

image

image

One of my fave things about SM stationery is how the supplies per brand are organized so neatly and given ample space for pen tester fanatics like me haha. I could spend hours just testing out various pens. I kid you not.

Accidental selfie haha:image

image

image

image

image

image

Have I mentioned how they have all other items needed for school projects like boards and cartolinas and styrofoam and crepe paper? Because they have all those too:

image

If you’re planning on doing some back-to-school shopping at SM, don’t forget that your school supplies needs can all be found at SM Stationery as well! Save yourself a lot of time and effort and be like me and rack up those SM advantage points haha. ๐Ÿ™‚

Here are some more picks and deals to inspire and excite you:

A colorful artsy summer at the SM Stationery Art Fest 2017

Last year, I was lucky enough to attend the SM Stationery Art Fest which featured my favorite stationery brands and had art workshops by creatives I look up to. (Thanks, Universe!) ๐Ÿ™‚

This year, I had the pleasure of attending it again, and I couldn’t be happier. The timing couldn’t have been better too! I personally love that it coincides with the summer season, which is perfect for students on vacation and adults who are excited to learn something new for summer.

Stationery and art workshops are my passion and I looked forward to learning more about how to maximize the use of said office/school supplies. The workshops are so innovative and exciting, and are facilitated by local creatives. There’s a lot of cool workshops, like metallic mandala art, floral doodling, diy shrinky dinks, diy watercolor stickers, diy sharpie watercolor art, gothic and brush calligraphy, and slime making. I wish I could have joined them all! ๐Ÿ™‚

Here are some photos I took on the 1st day of the event, which runs from April 19-23 at the Mega Fashion Hall. Loved the pastel theme this year, it looked so fresh and fun!

image

We loved these cute colorful icons displayed in stands. Resisted the urge to pluck them off and pose with them a la photobooth style haha:

image

image

I doodled on this ice cream cone because I adore ice cream:

image

Like last time, the participating brands had artsy activities you can try per area. The participating brands this year are Faber-Castell, Elmer’s, Sharpie, Ifex Philippines, M&G Stationery, and Pilot. Being a stationery lover, these are all brands I adore and use. It was really fun seeing the numerous possibilities and artistic creations you could make with their products (and the creative and colorful product displays!):

There were a lot of colorful markers which you can use to doodle or color in these artsy installations. A crowd favorite. :

Drone shot/climbing up the highest floor in the mall lol. This was taken while Wednesday, papercutter extraordinaire, was setting up for a demo in partnership with Ifex. Loving the orange comma stage! I was joking how it was a nice flatlay prop/bed shot from above, haha:

Loot from the event, featuring products from the participating brands. Check out more colorful snaps featuring the above brands in my previous post. Can’t wait to make tons of art using these:

P.S. It’s their last day today! Hurry over to the Mega Fashion Hall and you might still get to join the art workshops and watch the demos (and hoard items to your heart’s content, haha). ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you, SM Stationery,ย for this fun event and thanks also to Faber-Castell, Elmer’s, Sharpie, Ifex Philippines, M&G Stationery, and Pilot. Till the next Art Fest!

They partnered with major stationery brands too, like Sharpie, M&G, Faber-Castell, Elmer’s, Ifex and Pilot. The best thing is, it runs starting today until April 23–which means you can hoard to your heart’s content and join all the art workshops they’ll be having this weekend. Summer artsy possibilities with SM Stationery’s Art Fest 2017!

Summer is my ultimate favorite. I consider it the season of possibilities: you can opt to relax at home or take a soothing vacation somewhere, or you can maximize the sunny weather and be productive with classes and workshops.

I want the best of both worlds, though, and since art workshops are challenging and fun but also gets you in the “flow” (i.e. a state of being in the zone/peak performance), I consider it both exciting and relaxing. ๐Ÿ™‚ If I could, I would join all the art workshops that exist, haha.

Try it for yourself with the variety of art workshops in SM Stationery’s Art Fest this weekend. Check out the photos below for more details:

Something fun: Exchange gift ideas for Christmas from SM Stationery

Christmas is almost here! Have you done your Christmas shopping yet?

I’m a big fan of doing my Christmas shopping in one place. For me, it’s less stressful and more time-efficient, and all I need to do is find a store that has everything I would love to give (and receive!) and my Christmas gift list–and maybe a rest area where I can admire my purchases afterwards :). Lucky for me there’s an SM Makati nearby, with my fave section of all time–The SM Stationery department! I belong to that SLSB club–Stationery Lover Since Birth, and I had to remind myself when I shopped that I was shopping for gifts for other people and not myself, haha (but I got myself some goodies too as a ‘reward’ for successfully ticking off all the items in my Christmas shopping list, heh #treatyoself).
I noticed that SM Stationery had so many wonderful gift possibilities and they couldn’t be more perfect for the holiday season. I know for a lot of us Filipinos, Christmas means ‘exchange gift’ time, or ‘secret santa’, where you spread the holiday cheer by having a group of people exchange names for a secret surprise gift exchange. Categories like “something cute”, “something long”, etc. are usually decided on by the group and a set budget for each gift is also agreed upon. It’s a fun way to be creative and to bond with your officemates or relatives, and it’s something a lot of Pinoys look forward to during Christmastime.

If you’re looking for some exchange gift inspiration or you just want to see gift suggestions that you yourself would love to receive, I’ve come up with a comprehensive guide for you!
I’ve grouped them according to the usual exchange gift categories to make it quicker and easier for you. The fun part is that you can also mix and match items from various categories because the pens, which are usually “something long” are so cute that they can also be “something cute”, and I think we can all agree that everything in SM Stationery is something useful (especially if you’re a member of the SLSB club like me!). The best part is that you can buy everything in one place–they can all be found in the SM Stationery department. Enjoy, and I hope you find the guide useful! ๐Ÿ™‚

Take my money! My trip to the SM Stationery Department

My fave season is back-to-school season because it meant going to the bookstores to buy school supplies like notebooks, art supplies, etc.

I no longer go to school (except for the occasional language classes and workshops) but back-to-school season still excites me majorly. I love seeing school/officeย supplies, organizational tools and stationeryย goodies and there’s always a great chance that there are new innovative items.

I’ve mentioned in my previous posts how my fave SM section is the stationery department and I was raring to check out the area and maybe hoard haha. The nearest SM branch to me was SM Makati so I went there and immediately targeted the Stationery section. ย I was looking forward to hoarding pens and notebooks for my art journaling but boy oh boy I got pleasantly surprised when I entered the area. So many cute and colorful (and useful!) items!

They have all the school supplies you need and they are well-stocked in every section. From pens to notebooks and paper to coloring materials to bags and organizers, everything you need for school/work can be found here. I love how they have so many options for each category. I’ve snapped some photos of items I particularly fell in love with.

I gravitated towards the stickers first because I am so addicted to stickers. I use it for decorating my journals and planners and I bet students would have a fun time using these to decorate their notebooks too (or retreat letters haha). These are all so stylish and affordable and I had to stop myself from hoarding one of each sheet:

image

image

Here you can find Martha Stewart (!) punchers and craft materials, pretty notebooks and lots of paper and washi tape. There’s also paper with lovely designs that you can use for scrapbooking or wrapping your notebooks with. When I was studying I had very inexpensive spiral notebooks for school and to make it cuter I covered it with magazine pages I liked and replaced the metal spiral binding with yarn. But I bet this paper would also work and if you wrap your notebooks with it, they’d have a theme!

There are also lots of super cute notebooks so don’t fret if you just want to get one that’s already nice to look at. ๐Ÿ™‚ Check out those trendy notebooks at the bottom right of the photo below. I also liked those brown frames and can already imagine placing handmade artworks with brush calligraphy or watercolor in it:

image

These organizers look awesome. I love that if you’re in love with a theme (I’m in love with the purple set), you can have an organized collection at work or at home:

image

Pencil cases! Which one’s your fave? I can’t choose just one–I love the watermelon pencil case below, and the sparkly one at the bottom left corner and the one with the winking eyes, which reminds me of Audrey Hepburn’s sleeping mask in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s:
image

I sorta lost it when I saw this shelf filled with colorful pens. No joke, I spent almost an hour or more just trying them out and picking my favorites–you can never have enough pens:
image

Just look at how adorable these are:
image

They also have these promos:
image

If you have a single receipt from the SM Stationery department worth Php1200, you can choose a freeย hot/coldย lunch pack until the end of June. All the designs are lovely:

image

Good thing back to school season is for everyone, stationery hoarders included (haha). ๐Ÿ™‚

I didn’t want to leave because there were so many cute and useful stuff I could imagine myself using in my online classes and at work. From pens and pencils and other writing instruments to school, art and office supplies to paper products, cartridges and ink, books and magazines (to stickers!<3) to filing and various forms of storage to cool frames and accessories (whew!)–they really had it all and you’d be spoilt for choice. ๐Ÿ™‚ They also have gift wrapping services and I know a lot of people (including me haha) who’d love a stationery gift pack for any special occasion. ๐Ÿ™‚

Review: Traveling with Faber-Castell watercolor pencils

My mom gave me a set of mini watercolor pencils from Faber-Castell some years ago and they’re still what I bring with me when I travel. I love the convenience of having handy pencils and watercolors in one portable set, and how the 12 colors are enough to create more colors. Perfect for traveling, since it’s spillproof and very convenient.

On the road with my trusty journal and trusty Faber-Castell watercolor pencils:

image

My old set is worn into one-inch stumps but they’ve been with me to a lot of trips and they now have a sentimental value. I was lucky enough to be provided with a new set by Faber-Castell for review, which I immediately tested on my journal:

image

You can achieve a high-level of intensity by building up the layers and blend two colors to create a new one. We also used it to color, and here’s what my cousin came up with–this is her first time to color and try these pencils and she loved it. Look at how beautifulย  her output was:

image

I’m having another trip soon and I’m surely bringing my Faber-Castell set with me again. ๐Ÿ™‚ 🙌

Review: Bonding and unwinding with Obra coloring books from Sterling

image

These beautiful coloring books were a huge part of my weekend.

Last night, I met a friend I haven’t seen in a long time and we did a lot of catching up over coffee.

I taught her about color and watercolors (p.s. I have watercolor workshops in Makati, if you want to learn, go to: http://tinyurl.com/mabuhaydiyworkshop).

She applied what she learned to these coloring books and when her husband arrived, he also joined us:

image

The pages are filled with unique and inpsiring artworks waiting to be colored:

image

image

My cousin and I bonded over coloring this morning as well:

image

Still in awe of her color choices and combinations! ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m happy that I got to bond and create art with my friends and family, and I think coloring artambays are great activities that would allow you to talk while still zoning out and being in the “flow”. ๐Ÿ™‚

Review: Color your world with Titus pens

If you’ve ever tried drawing with a ballpoint pen, you’d know that it’s both challenging and exciting. It can’t be erased so each mark has to be deliberate, but that’s also the exact quality which makes it so exciting to work with–you won’t waste time second-guessing your marks and it will put you more in the “flow”, a state of being in the zone where the only matter of importance is you and what you’re doing, which is doodling, in this case.

That feeling of being in the “flow” of things is how I felt when I doodled using these Titus pens. I wanted to try them out because I actually love drawing with ballpens ever since I studied ballpen drawing in an art workshop by the Father of art workshops Fernando Sena a couple of summers ago. He gave us tips on drawing using ballpoint pens and what I remember most is his tip on drawing using one direction only.

Here’s what I came up with, using Titus Pens. I’m currently out of town right now and this is a clue to where I am right now:

image

Titus pens come in a variety of shades which makes it perfect for drawing and shading: black, blue, red, yellow, brown, orange, purple, green, sky blue, pink. They write smoothly, but my hands were oily which I think made some parts smudge a bit, heh. I still love how smoothly they wrote though. ๐Ÿ™‚

These ballpen artworks were made on-the-spot by youth all over the Philippines using Titus pens. Jaw-dropping and super inspiring:

image

Ballpen party! My fave would have to be the Titus OMG! Retractable w/grip (in the photo below, the violet and pink one at the middle) because of the rubbery grip, since I’m heavy-handed.

image

Ballpen bouquet for you:

Review: Paper possibilities with Ifex Paper

I’m pretty sure I’d probably faint from excitement if Ifex paper takes me to their warehouse, haha. I had such a great time just admiring and touching all the paper samples in their booth at the SM Stationery Art Fest.

I wanted to burst into a Disney-inspired little mermaid song number:
They’ve got watercolor paper and calligraphy pads aplenty–They’ve got cardstock and sketchpads galoreee

If you’re a paper lover like me, you’d understand, right?

Ifex stands for International Fine Paper Exchange, and they are the distributors of brands like Canson, Olin, Rives and Curious Collection, among many others. Canson is the watercolor paper brand I mostly use so I was really thrilled to see their booth at the SM Stationery Art Fest. ๐Ÿ™‚

image

Their press kit (pictured above) contained products made using their paper: A planner, a calendar and coasters. Their calendar showcased a different type of paper per month with special printing techniques like these:

image

These paper samples make choosing the right paper easier and hassle-free. Love that you get to see the exact shades and thickness of each sheet, and know instantly the colors they come in. This is perfect for people looking for paper suppliers for their cards or invites.
image

Here’s an example of their paper in action. Love the cutout detail!

image

My business cards are totally DIY but seeing the countless possibilities with Ifex paper is making me excited to redesign my cards. Maybe something with gold foil?.:)
