Exploring the universe: Singapore 2019

Hello friends! I just came back from a wonderful trip to Singapore where I stuffed myself with as much kaya toast as possible, journaled and officially became an instagram wife to my good friend Mons haha.

It’s my third time in Singapore and I did observe that it’s hotter and more humid this time? I changed my shirt around three times because I was sweating too much haha.

It was my first time to try a capsule hostel and I fell in love with it! We got a pod in Spacepod and it was cozy and private. Better than normal hostels because you had a curtain you can lock and it was more quiet inside each pod:

We primarily went there for Gardens by the Bay but it rained on the day we were supposed to go so a lot of areas were closed. It was also super hot and humid that day so we opted to stay in the nice hostel and journal together, which we both enjoyed greatly.

Since we were both big Gudetama fans, we celebrated Mon’s birthday at Gudetama Cafe! I wanted to visit this for the longest time so this alone made the trip worth it haha:

We even wore Gudetama shirts for the occasion πŸ™‚

The newly-opened Jewel Changi was also all sorts of awesome, but what we really wanted was to eat at Shake Shack and visit Tokyu Hands together because we’re both fans of the shop. The line was long but it moved quickly and we were starving and sleep-deprived so we enjoyed our expensive burgers haha:

I regret not buying even one small Pikachu here at the Pokemon store:

The gudetama zodiac toys above were so cute!

Matchy matchy!

You’ve probably seen a trillion photos of the indoor waterfall at Jewel already, so here’s a photo of an installation I loved as well:

I got addicted to these cheesy chicken pops and cheesy chicken balls from Old Chang Kee. We were lucky there was a shop beside our hostel and I think I bought them each day we were there:

The cheese sauce wasn’t too salty and complemented the crispy chicken well. It tasted to me like a mixture of cheez whiz and sour cream which resulted in something really yummy.

For our first night, we prioritized Gudetama Cafe. This had beans, mushrooms and a salad on the side plus bacon and sausage. I think this can be shared, just have an extra order of soup which you can also share:

Since we both wanted to go to the beach but our schedules didn’t sync, we went to the beach at Sentosa, painted and napped:

First time to try cendol!

We visited Bras Basah complex for Art Friend and Cat Socrates:

Met up with my friends and we had yummy satay at Lau Pa Sat:

Haji lane was as colorful as I remembered.

For our last day, we visited Little India and Clarke Quay. I enjoyed painting at Clarke Quay while we sipped Liho Singapore tea (Fruit tea with fresh watermelon, grapefruit and other fresh fruits inside):

We left Singapore with this glorious sight in the plane window:

P.s. Made a flipthrough of my Singapore travel journal! Check it out below:

What I’ve been up to: June 2017

I’ve heard very good things about the p2p buses and i’ve been dying to try it out. Yesterday I was finally able to do that with my good friend Nayna. πŸ™‚ Yay for trying new things! I imagined it as a sort of mini field trip in the metro.

Nayna and I have been friends for 14 years! If we had a child, that child would be in high school already haha.

Inside @ritualph in Pamana building Makati. Hoarded the laundry soap which I use as my body soap because it smells like lemongrass. πŸ™‚ Sort of like how I’ve heard a lot of peoplw use Perla for their face and my skin isnt very particular, so there we go.

We had a quick brunch in Makati and off we went to ATC to visit the pop-up of @commonroomph. I got myself a new beep card with wonder woman in it. πŸ™‚

We saw @timipee! What a wonderfully small world. We rode the bus with her and I may or may not have changed my super drenched shirt (it was so humid and hot yesterday!) with the help of a scarf and N inside the bus lol. Only to remember that there’s a cctv inside haha whoops.

I love Serenitea in ATC because you can see what you’re drinking lol haha. In Makati the cups are made of paper but here they’re in plastic. It made me feel that the scoop was extra big and not squooshed up inside that flat plastic cover. My go-to drink here is the uji matcha pyramid and I keep on plugging it to friends I bring to Serenitea. Hi serenitea please get me as an endorser hahaha:

With Timmy and Nayna:
One of my fave moments was when while we were walking we heard a random boy say “tita” and we all thought he was calling one of us hahaha. He was talking to his legit tita on the phone btw. πŸ™‚

image

Saw titas @ella_lama and @marie_lama in the @commonroomph popup! Also saw superwonderwoman @romaagsalud and her fiancee hard at work:

image

Truly enjoyed taking part in the common room challenges! Painted in wood for the first time which I super loved (they’ll use it in making their new home), made cranes and painted their creative and collaborative tarp!

Happy to see a lot of Pinoys supporting local handmade:

Rode the same p2p bus going back to Makati and snapped some photos of the glorious sunset:

It was a beatiful end to my day. Cannot wait to return to ATC for Common Room in the future! πŸ™‚

Also, am joining Arriane Serafico’s #daretoshareIGchallenge and am already in love with it and the community! Thank you for this, Arriane! Am learning more about wonderful women and about myself. Here’s my journal page containing some self-care apps for the challenge and a food painting I did yesterday during our date. I was also able to draw and paint random passersby when I challenged myself to do that while eating. Might do more!

Exploring the Universe: New York 2016

What I love most about NY is how easily I can go around the city via subway. I was intimidated and confused by the many different lines ar first but when I figured it out a bit, I was able to visit all the items in my NY bucket list!

Rode the ferry to Liberty island and Ellis island:

image

Walked along the high line a la Abbi and Ilana from Broad City:

image

I would have loved staying there for longer, I loved the plants and flowers and the view:

image

Saw the Alice sculpture in Central Park after around 2 or 3 hours of walking haha:

image

Really steep subway escalator:

image

Ceiling mosaic from a subway station:

image

Checked out the Guggenheim museum, and my fave would have to be the exhibit featuring artworks by children:

image

Saw these black and white cookies first from seinfeld first, and bought some as my drawing snack while I did some urban sketching at Bryant park:

image

image

At the MoMa, I serendipitously bumped into Victoria! We were looking at the same painting (seen below, the one behind us) and I noticed that the girl beside me looked familiar. When I asked her if she was Victoria, I was actually surprised that she was! Haha πŸ™‚

image

I loved the MoMa but was really happy I caught the Degas exhibit, with all his monotype works:

image

My fave from the Met, entirely made of glass:

image

Was also able to finally meet my lj friend Keith! We met in lj ten years or more ago and we were able to finally meet in person! Thanks for everything, Keith πŸ™‚

image

She took me to Koreatown where we had really yummy sweet and savoryΒ  waffles and this unforgettable jasmine matcha latte (still dreaming of it till now):

image

Then we walked around Times square, saw a Strand stall, and went inside the Disney store where I went a bit crazy (tsum tsumssss):

image

Offered to take photos of tourists and tourists offered to take photos of me, which I gladly accepted haha. The Grand Central station is as beautiful as they say it is. Wore my Ghostbusters shirt becauseeee New Yorkkk

image

We rode the Roosevelt island tram (I want to live in Roosevelt island):

Brooklyn 99 is love, so I snapped some photos of this police station in Brooklyn when we walked towards the Brooklyn bridge:

image

Also visited the NY public library:

image

And walked to St. Patrick’s cathedral and the Rockefeller center:

image

image

image

We stayed near the NY Times building. Got myself mexican corn and hibiscus juice from the popup stalls near the area, and took this photo of the buildings nearby:

While walking around, I was able to catch a glimpse of the Chrysler building from a side street:

Museum “me” time: Ayala museum

I’ve been to Ayala museum more than five times already and to be honest I just scan the areas I’ve visited very quickly. Until yesterday. I spent more than 3 hours there, just documenting my faves in my planner. I stood in front of these pieces and got a bit lost in the details, but I still carried on because I wanted something to remember it by. I am now considering getting a membership next year, and having a Saturday museum “me” time where I just draw every piece that I like. πŸ™‚
