Hello. My life has been through a lot of major changes lately and I’ve been trying my best to swim with it. I hope you’re all doing well and taking care of yourselves. Last weekend, my family was able to visit this quaint farm in Rizal, and I snapped some photos to help me remember how refreshing the vacation was:
Wow can you believe it’s already half of 2017? I am happy to report that I feel buoyant because of friends and family, and this little fellow called “art”. 2017’s first half was pretty tough, but we do what we can do to stay afloat. For me that’s artambay with friends and milk tea and making art as often as I can.
How about you? Let me know if you have self-care tips!
I organized my sparkly handmade watercolors in an altoids tin. I super enjoyed making these!
Clockwise from top left: rose gold, mermaid gold, sunset gold, sakura gold, graphite gold, midnight gold, galaxy gold, pomegranate gold. 🙂
I also painted parts of the face for practice using handmade watercolor paint from @seamountainco:
The night before was Thursday night which meant it was #Artsythursdays wherein I paint more for myself:
Last night I painted
I’ve heard very good things about the p2p buses and i’ve been dying to try it out. Yesterday I was finally able to do that with my good friend Nayna. 🙂 Yay for trying new things! I imagined it as a sort of mini field trip in the metro.
Nayna and I have been friends for 14 years! If we had a child, that child would be in high school already haha.
Inside @ritualph in Pamana building Makati. Hoarded the laundry soap which I use as my body soap because it smells like lemongrass. 🙂 Sort of like how I’ve heard a lot of peoplw use Perla for their face and my skin isnt very particular, so there we go.
We had a quick brunch in Makati and off we went to ATC to visit the pop-up of @commonroomph. I got myself a new beep card with wonder woman in it. 🙂
We saw @timipee! What a wonderfully small world. We rode the bus with her and I may or may not have changed my super drenched shirt (it was so humid and hot yesterday!) with the help of a scarf and N inside the bus lol. Only to remember that there’s a cctv inside haha whoops.
I love Serenitea in ATC because you can see what you’re drinking lol haha. In Makati the cups are made of paper but here they’re in plastic. It made me feel that the scoop was extra big and not squooshed up inside that flat plastic cover. My go-to drink here is the uji matcha pyramid and I keep on plugging it to friends I bring to Serenitea. Hi serenitea please get me as an endorser hahaha:
With Timmy and Nayna:
One of my fave moments was when while we were walking we heard a random boy say “tita” and we all thought he was calling one of us hahaha. He was talking to his legit tita on the phone btw. 🙂
Saw titas @ella_lama and @marie_lama in the @commonroomph popup! Also saw superwonderwoman @romaagsalud and her fiancee hard at work:
Truly enjoyed taking part in the common room challenges! Painted in wood for the first time which I super loved (they’ll use it in making their new home), made cranes and painted their creative and collaborative tarp!
Happy to see a lot of Pinoys supporting local handmade:
Rode the same p2p bus going back to Makati and snapped some photos of the glorious sunset:
It was a beatiful end to my day. Cannot wait to return to ATC for Common Room in the future! 🙂
Also, am joining Arriane Serafico’s #daretoshareIGchallenge and am already in love with it and the community! Thank you for this, Arriane! Am learning more about wonderful women and about myself. Here’s my journal page containing some self-care apps for the challenge and a food painting I did yesterday during our date. I was also able to draw and paint random passersby when I challenged myself to do that while eating. Might do more!
I realized recently how much I missed blogging about where I’ve been and talking about those gems that caught my eye through the journey. Trying to change that, though! My trusty waterproof point and shoot Canon gave up after 10 years so am still thinking if I should buy another one like that. I loved it so much, and all my photos in the past were mostly taken using that. I dropped it so many times (once in the Great Wall where it almost gave up lol eep) and perhaps it should be laid to rest heh.
Anyway! Took some snaps in Virgin resort in Batangas and I have to say that it has the best shoreline in all the resorts we’ve tried in the area. Just take a look:
I’ve been pretty swamped with adult responsibilities lately and feeling a bit bummed. Luckily this trip gave me much needed “me” time. I played in the water, sank my toes in the sand, slept under a coconut tree and made art. All this while in the company of great friends. Thank you Universe!
And just like that, my blues were washed away. 🙂
Just came back from the surprise long weekend which gave me some time with my family. 🙂
We went to Tagaytay where I bonded with nature and flowers haha:
I was able to make a lot of art there and play with my sakura gelly rolls:
Before we went to Tagaytay, I was able to join an impromptu artambay with my friends Ella, Marie and Monique! Monique painted this scrumptious Pocky artwork in my notebook:
I was able to try @ella_lama’s new vute notebook! Look how pretty it is:
Tried using various materials on it like watercolors and markers. Loving the paper!
Happy to be making art again! I noticed that when I feel that I’m too tired or stressed to make art that that’s when I should make more to calm and center me. Last night I was able to make an abstract artwork inspired by summer shakes. I used acrylic paint and used a pallette knife which I IMMENSELY enjoyed. Will make more tonight maybe:
Hope you’re having a lovely summer! 🙂
It’s when you feel too busy to make art that you probably should make art, if you were me.
I resist it a bit with chores and work as an excuse but find that it’s just like a workout–once you’re there you can’t seem to stop and you feel pretty great after.
I was inspired by FRUiTS growing up and read an article on how the fashion situation in Japan is so different now due to stores like Uniqlo. Did this washi tape fashion collage using my handmade @seamountainco palette and I find that tearing washi tape is incredibly soothing.
Quick watercolor portrait in 15 minutes–I didn’t use a pencil here so I was just modifying it as I went.
Happy that K and I are trying new restos again.
Joined my first #protonsworkshop and it was a collab with gogogelato and we got to eat lots of gelato and even see the process of making it–I got to churn some buko lychee sherbet which I took home after. Also met a lot of new friends, which makes my heart very happy. I hope you are having a good March too, wherever you may be.
Happy summer! Summer is my fave season and I’m so honored that I got to be the one to make the March 2017 journaling prompts for #HobonichPH:
Don’t forget to use the hashtag #HobonichiPHChallenge if you’re participating! 🙂
I had so many happy moments these past few days:
😙 I got to try and experiment and make my own handmade rose gold watercolor paint! Kinda obsessed with rose gold recently and I thought I’d try and make paint with this hue in mind:
Success! It took a lot of trial and error but happy with the outcome. Brought it with me to a mini artambay with my washi and sticker-loving friends yesterday.
😙 Got new washi tapes (first group buy and so worth it!) and mildliners yesterday and got to bond with friends:
😙 Attended the #ArtfairPH with K, her first time:
😙 I also painted mini abstract paintings which I turned to stickers using handpainted watercolors made by @seamountainco 🙂
😙 I uploaded several flipthroughs of my past journals and travel project life in my youtube channel, if you want to take a peek: http://tinyurl.com/mabuhaydiy2011journal
I hope March has been good to you too.
Happy month of love! 🙂 My heart has been extra happy lately mostly because of my several fb groups– I made a washi tape and sticker lovers PH group and we have a hobonichi book club and several planner and journal FB groups as well. I think my calling might be bringing people together for art-related stuff haha. 🙂
I also got to try handmade paints by @seamountainco! Check out the colors I achieved from these 5 colors and the painting I made using these 5 as well:
I finally was able to organize my washi tapes as well!
I started an online book club years ago with daily themes on tumblr: booklat.tumblr.com 🙂 Happy that my book club dreams migrated to the FB world with the Hobonichi book club PH–here is my page for it:
Did a bit of urban sketching inside a cafe:
Received this beautiful bouquet from the gf for Valentine’s day! Such a sweet surprise, and she specifically picked different flowers because she knows I love painting them. Thanks love!
Used stickers from #ARdailysticker to decorate my monthly hobonichi spread for February:
Made some stickers too! 🙂
We just finished making our artworks for the 2nd #ladiesdrawingnightPH session (the remote and local version of the original #ladiesdrawingnight). I wasn’t able to compile the works of everyone but you can see them on instagram using the hashtag: #ladiesdrawingnightPH 🙂
Posted this theme around 8.50pm Manila time today (Sunday). The next one will be done around that time as well so if you want to join us, do check out my instagram page around that time. 🙂
Here’s what I came up with, using watercolors and markers. I love using watercolors and my #inktober project and the previous #colorexploration challenge really helped me become more confident with painting. It becomes easier if you make it a daily habit. My strokes feel looser and I am not too stressed out when I have painting mistakes–that’s part of the charm of watercolors anyway.
Dog photos as reference from google images. I’m really happy about the turnout of this challenge and I hope next week more people would join! Join us if you like! It’s a fun way to practice and get to know more friends. 🙂
It’s been my dream to organize a local version of #ladiesdrawingnight when I saw it in the feed of @juliarothman, @leahreenagoren and @rachaelcole a year or so ago. 🙂 It just seemed very cool and fun and I tried to organize one with willing friends but the unpredictable weather and traffic proves to be hindrances. I thought of having it online instead, using direct group messaging so I pitched this idea to tita @ella_lama who was game as well and to a few other friends. With her help and support we were able to push through with the first session a few minutes ago!
Our themes were desserts (using pink and yellow) and drinks (using brown and blue).
We had to finish our work within 45 minutes per theme and this is what everyone came up with:
To see and follow the artists who made each work, kindly see my instagram (@mabuhaydiy) for the tags. 🙂
If you want to join the next from the comfort of your home, it’s this Sunday, October 23, 9pm Philippine time. I’ll be posting the next theme in my instagram around that time as well so we can make art together at the same time. 🙂
