Happy times, thank you

It’s when you feel too busy to make art that you probably should make art, if you were me.

I resist it a bit with chores and work as an excuse but find that it’s just like a workout–once you’re there you can’t seem to stop and you feel pretty great after.

I was inspired by FRUiTS growing up and read an article on how the fashion situation in Japan is so different now due to stores like Uniqlo. Did this washi tape fashion collage using my handmade @seamountainco palette and I find that tearing washi tape is incredibly soothing.

Quick watercolor portrait in 15 minutes–I didn’t use a pencil here so I was just modifying it as I went.

Happy that K and I are trying new restos again.

image

Joined my first #protonsworkshop and it was a collab with gogogelato and we got to eat lots of gelato and even see the process of making it–I got to churn some buko lychee sherbet which I took home after. Also met a lot of new friends, which makes my heart very happy. I hope you are having a good March too, wherever you may be.

What I’ve been up to: March 2017

Happy summer! Summer is my fave season and I’m so honored that I got to be the one to make the March 2017 journaling prompts for #HobonichPH:

image

Don’t forget to use the hashtag #HobonichiPHChallenge if you’re participating! 🙂

I had so many happy moments these past few days:

😙 I got to try and experiment and make my own handmade rose gold watercolor paint! Kinda obsessed with rose gold recently and I thought I’d try and make paint with this hue in mind:

image

Success! It took a lot of trial and error but happy with the outcome. Brought it with me to a mini artambay with my washi and sticker-loving friends yesterday.

😙 Got new washi tapes (first group buy and so worth it!) and mildliners yesterday and got to bond with friends:

😙 Attended the #ArtfairPH with K, her first time:

😙 I also painted mini abstract paintings which I turned to stickers using handpainted watercolors made by @seamountainco 🙂

😙 I uploaded several flipthroughs of my past journals and travel project life in my youtube channel, if you want to take a peek: http://tinyurl.com/mabuhaydiy2011journal

I hope March has been good to you too.

What I’ve been up to: February 2017

Happy month of love! 🙂 My heart has been extra happy lately mostly because of my several fb groups– I made a washi tape and sticker lovers PH group and we have a hobonichi book club and several planner and journal FB groups as well. I think my calling might be bringing people together for art-related stuff haha. 🙂

I also got to try handmade paints by @seamountainco! Check out the colors I achieved from these 5 colors and the painting I made using these 5 as well:

I finally was able to organize my washi tapes as well!

I started an online book club years ago with daily themes on tumblr: booklat.tumblr.com 🙂 Happy that my book club dreams migrated to the FB world with the Hobonichi book club PH–here is my page for it:

Did a bit of urban sketching inside a cafe:

Received this beautiful bouquet from the gf for Valentine’s day! Such a sweet surprise, and she specifically picked different flowers because she knows I love painting them. Thanks love!

Used stickers from #ARdailysticker to decorate my monthly hobonichi spread for February:

Made some stickers too! 🙂

The 2nd #ladiesdrawingnightPH session!

We just finished making our artworks for the 2nd #ladiesdrawingnightPH session (the remote and local version of the original #ladiesdrawingnight). I wasn’t able to compile the works of everyone but you can see them on instagram using the hashtag: #ladiesdrawingnightPH 🙂

Posted this theme around 8.50pm Manila time today (Sunday). The next one will be done around that time as well so if you want to join us, do check out my instagram page around that time. 🙂

Here’s what I came up with, using watercolors and markers. I love using watercolors and my #inktober project and the previous #colorexploration challenge really helped me become more confident with painting. It becomes easier if you make it a daily habit. My strokes feel looser and I am not too stressed out when I have painting mistakes–that’s part of the charm of watercolors anyway.

Dog photos as reference from google images. I’m really happy about the turnout of this challenge and I hope next week more people would join! Join us if you like! It’s a fun way to practice and get to know more friends. 🙂

The very first #ladiesdrawingnightPH (remote version)

It’s been my dream to organize a local version of #ladiesdrawingnight when I saw it in the feed of @juliarothman, @leahreenagoren and @rachaelcole a year or so ago. 🙂 It just seemed very cool and fun and I tried to organize one with willing friends but the unpredictable weather and traffic proves to be hindrances. I thought of having it online instead, using direct group messaging so I pitched this idea to tita @ella_lama who was game as well and to a few other friends. With her help and support we were able to push through with the first session a few minutes ago!

Our themes were desserts (using pink and yellow) and drinks (using brown and blue).

We had to finish our work within 45 minutes per theme and this is what everyone came up with:

To see and follow the artists who made each work, kindly see my instagram (@mabuhaydiy) for the tags. 🙂

Here’s mine!

If you want to join the next from the comfort of your home, it’s this Sunday, October 23, 9pm Philippine time. I’ll be posting the next theme in my instagram around that time as well so we can make art together at the same time. 🙂

I painted these and tried embossing for the first time for #YOUniverse! You can see some of it inside Local Edition coffeeshop, and I feel so grateful that the stars aligned and made my wishes come true: I finally got to try embossing and I was able to fulfill that dream of having some of my art displayed in a shop/store (even if only for a while!) Thank you, lucky stars, and friends @gelibalcruz and @kimilulifecoach for this opportunity. 🙂

Remember when I attended Valerie Chua’s floral painting workshop last year? I found the drawn peony template and I colored it using my new van gogh watercolor set. Loving this set and how great and pointy the brush is. I wanted to practice coloring so I did that last night. 🙂

These two below were painted using tutorials of @inkstruckstudio! I really had fun playing with the van gogh set and that’s what I used here as well. The pigments are smooth and highly saturated, just a bit goes a long way:

Happy Halloween in advance! Here’s a hipster manananggal for you:

What I’ve been up to: September 2016

At the start of the year, I named this year: The Year of Abundance. I was thinking that I wanted more money haha because to be quite honest I was really challenged in that area (maybe because I have hoarding tendencies and the urge to stresseat haha). Now that we’re in our Ber months, I’m happy to report that this year proved to be super abundant for me, and not just money-wise (still figuring that area out lol).

I was able to travel to new places where I got to tick off several items in my bucket list, meet a lot of new friends, test my skills in exciting but nerve-wracking activities and make lots of art! Still have a few months before 2016 closes and am sure I’ll have even more exciting surprises from the universe haha. Thanks, Universe! 🙂

In other news, I joined the workshop of Arlene Sy yesterday because I wanted to improve my flower-painting skills. She’s one of my idols because she’s so good at what she does and she has that distinct painting style which I adore. Her flowers look so fresh and alive and also delicately gorgeous.

The workshop was held at Te Amo Floristeria at BGC and wow, that place sure is pretty! I couldn’t stop taking photos of their flowers and floral arrangements. If I were rich I’d buy flowers daily because I’m just so obsessed with them and the way they freshen up a room and make people smile. 🙂

The snacks were from @alchemybymeryl and we got to take home one beautiful yummy box each! I think I squealed with delight lol when Arlene announced that because I’m pataygutom hahaha. And because the boxes looked delightful and I wanted to store my washi tapes in them haha.

We also got a surprise flower-arranging workshop with the sweet owner of Te Amo, Ms. Amy! 🙂 Kuya had to help me wrap mine because I wasn’t able to focus because I was so distracted by all the beautiful flowers haha sorry #shortattentionspan

Here’s my rose, and I almost gave up on it because it was not cooperating with me haha. I don’t usually paint with pencil lines so this was ultra – challenging for me:

image

I had to keep on adding shadows to it because it looked so flat at first. Accckkk.

I was excited about the impressionistic flowers because I like painting that way:

image

I need more practice but am happy that it’s a start! 🙂

Also, my washi tapes fit PERFECTLY in the empty macaron box so big whoop for that:

All in all yesterday was pretty amazing! Thanks, universe! 🙂

Magical notebooks: Eden Street

A beautiful parcel arrived yesterday and I was delighted that it matched the theme of #colorexploration! Yellow and green 🙂

image

Inside were these beautiful items from @edenstreet. Swoon.

image

Couldn’t resist placing my little pony and unicorns in this shot–they belong together!

Snapped another photo, this time with my #colorexploration bouquet, featuring mint and green.

image

They make me smile and feel so happy and giddy. I just adore the feel-good sentiments in the journals and I love how it’s just like a love letter from the universe. 🙂 I can’t wait to fill these with positive quotes and lovely sayings.

Thank you very much, @edenstreet!

To order these items, check out the instagram page of Eden street: @edenstreet 🙂

Stay golden!

What I’ve been up to: August 2016

I’ve been painting impressionistic flowers in watercolor lately. When I found out that my titas @ella_lama and @hueandai were doing a #colorexploration project, I decided to join them to challenge myself as well. Am multitasking and calling it my #30daysofimpressionisticbouquets project 🙂

Also, I woke up this morning and saw the neater, cleaner and cuter version of my workspace, illustrated by tita @ella_lama. I love it!! Now I’m inspired to clean my workspace haha. Thanks tita! 🙂
